Some RHINO editors will trek east from the Windy City, hoping to catch up with some of their far-flung writers and friends.

An open poetry mike will follow: we invite audience members to share THEIR poetry on this same theme. We encourage passionate poetry from writers of all ages, while discouraging highly partisan rants. Folks will be on hand to sign up
any unregistered voters.

In this workshop, Judith Valente and Charles Reynard, who both live hectic professional lives – he as an Illinois Circuit Court Judge, she as a correspondent for PBS-TV and Chicago Public Radio, will talk about how reading and writing poetry has been an essential part of their lives. They will also show how an encounter with a particular poem at a pivotal point in life, can change the course of a lifetime.

RHINO has an ongoing relationship with this wonderful gallery, and we invite poets and poetry lovers to visit the Woman Made's new location. Poets Marion Boyer, Ardis Stewart, Steven Schroeder, and Amy Liang will read original work, as well as translations from the Chinese (Steven and Amy's translation of contemporary Chinese poet Li Nan appears in Rhino 2006). The Gallery will be exhibiting their Members' Show plus All Things Woven. A Poetry Train from Normal will bring RHINO-south poets and readers up to swell the ranks of this event.

Poet & ecosystem ecologist Liam Heneghan (Professor @ DePaul University's Environmental Science Program) will lead a roaming poetry experience.
Liam and several featured poets including Cin Salach will share work beneath extraordinary trees, culminating in an open mike (nature themes) with seasonal refreshments. Lively and intriguing audience interaction & artmaking will ensue.
